New Video Power Conditioner from
Equi=Tech to be Introduced at NSCA

(For Immediate Release)

March 15, 2004 – Selma, OR – Equi=Tech Corporation “The Pioneer of Balanced Power” shows off the newest addition to their balanced power lineup of products at this year’s NSCA Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Keeping up with its industry leading position as the innovator of revolutionary power products, the company introduces the Model QV1000 as the first product of its kind designed specifically for cleaning video images on CRT’s, LCD’s, projection systems and in associated video signal processors.

The primary differences between the QV1000 and its audio related power equipment is the bandwidth of noise rejection achieved in the video versions of its systems.  While their audio related balanced power systems already sport the widest bandwidth of harmonic load-noise attenuation of all similar products, the QV1000 extends the bandwidth of noise attenuation even further, up into the frequency range of the MPG compressed video stream. “It’s the best video cleaner I’ve ever seen.  It made my regular TV play like an expensive video monitor.”, states John Guidi of Evolution Audio and Theater in Agoura Hills, California.

The QV1000 has a 10-amp capacity, large enough for the most formidable home and commercial projection systems and also enough power in reserve to accommodate additional source video electronics and other signal processors.  The system also includes a CATV isolator built into the rear panel of the chassis to protect the system from unwarranted cable noise on the line.  The QV1000 lists for $1889 retail.  Dealer inquiries are invited.  More information about the new Model QV1000 can be found here.

Second-time Exhibitor Scores Top Drawer Win for Best Sound of 2003 Show

June 2002 AND 2003 -- New York, NY -- San Francisco, CA -- First (and) second-time exhibitor at Stereophile Magazine's Home Entertainment Show, Equi=Tech Corporation, entered the highly competitive fray of hi-definition audio manufacturers coming away with a solid win in the Best Sound of Show category at the most recent "HE" show in San Francisco, a repeat performance of their win in New York the prior year.  Teamed up with Joseph Audio, Manley Labs, Cardas Audio, dB Tech, and RixRax, Equi=Tech garnered the #1 position in votes cast by show attendees who elected the "Harlem Suite" as their favorite sounding room of all.

"The most prestigious of all awards to be won, the "Best Sound of Show" is what all exhibitors are shooting for," states Martin Glasband, Equi=Tech's President.  "I spent a few hours just listening to the remarkable sound in that room myself.  When they demo'd Loius Armstrong's rendition of St. James Infirmary, I knew we were in a special place." he continued.  "It was captivating and exciting to hear music reproduced with such clarity and realism.  We were fortunate indeed to be teamed up with the companies who shared the space with us as I am equally proud of our contribution." he concludes.  The Model 2Q was Equi=Tech's featured item present in the "Harlem Suite" with other fine components from the other room contributors.  San Francisco's 2004 show also featured the newest of Equi=Tech's super-high resolution front end models, the Q650, providing stunning clarity and detail above and beyond all other similar products.

Balanced AC, pioneered by Equi=Tech, has recently found its way into many households as well as most professional recording studios.  Increased sonic resolution and detail as well as tighter more defined bass response are two of the benefits that Equi=Tech's balanced power products offer to the high-end audio marketplace. The impact that this technology has had is ever expanding across the technology map.  The benefits realized in the high definition audio arena is just one more example of what solid science can do for people in many different ways.

Equi=Tech, Manley Labs and Joseph Audio plan an encore presentation at the next Home Entertainment Show scheduled for San Francisco in June, 2003.  (Another convincing win.) If you can attend either of the shows in 2004 which will be held in New York and San Francisco once more, please do so.  You will be treating your ears to something really special.

Revolutionary Wall Cabinet System
Receives TEC Award Nomination

Equi=Tech Garners 3rd TEC Award Nomination in 6 years

May 16, 2001 -- Selma, OR -- For the third time in six years, an Equi=Tech product has been nominated by audio industry professionals for the prestigious MIX Foundation for Technical Excellence and Creativity award.  This is perhaps the most prestigious and sought after award in the recording industry for manufacturers of equipment used in professional audio.

Undergoing some recent major design changes, the revolutionary Wall Cabinet Balanced Power System has gained a very strong foothold in the professional audio marketplace.  Many of the largest and most well known studios have opted to use these wall systems for their studio's technical power needs.  Among some of the major studios who have chosen the Wall System are (in no special order), Ocean Way Recording, Avatar Studios (Power Station), The Plant, Sony Music, Glennwood Studios, Ray Charles Entrerprises, Wonderland and Sound Services Inc. (SSI).  Many others too have made the wall system their choice because they simply want the quietest studio possible.

This is the second time that a Wall System has received a nomination for this award.  A Previous version of the Wall Cabinet System, the Model ET10W, received similar acclaim in 1998 just after the product was first introduced.  The newest redesigned version however has substantially launched this product into greater popularity than ever before.  Now 25% larger and having the capacity to accomodate more circuits, studio designers are finding it much easier to retrofit or design new rooms than with the its predecessors.  Many studio owners have commented that this is the most refined balanced power system on the market today.  This has simplified their choice knowing that they can acquire the best there is for their studio investment.

The MIX foundation has been presenting awards for Technical Excellence and Creativity since 1985 and since, they have come to be regarded as the benchmark awards in the entire audio industry.  The nomination process involves 185 industry leaders who choose from a prospective list of nominees or submit their own choices.  The nomination ballots are then tallied and the nominees are officially chosen.  5 nominees from each category are placed on an official ballot appearing in the August issue of MIX Magazine.  The voting is then done by the readership.  Winners will be announced at the TEC Awards Banquet at the Marriott Hotel in New York on September 22 during the AES Convention.

National Electrical Code
Widens Scope of Balanced Power
.

Quincy, MA -- By a vote of 17-1, an NEC technical committee has approved an amendment to the electrical code that would extend the scope of balanced AC power beyond audio/video production areas to all sensitive electronics applications.  Slated to take effect in the 2002 edition of the National Electrical Code, what is now Article 530 Part “G” will be deleted and a new Article 647 titled “Sensitive Electronic Equipment” will be created in its place.

Balanced power, which has up to now been the exclusive domain of the audio and video industries has become the heir apparent to many other types of power conditioning technologies used in a variety of commercial and high-tech environments.  These areas include data processing, R & D, telecommunications, automated manufacturing and specific areas of commercial lighting.

“Building on our success in the audio/video and broadcast markets, it was the logical next step.” states Martin Glasband, President of Equi=Tech Corporation and author of the new NEC Article 647.  “What we've managed to accomplish here in the a/v industry in a few short years represents what I believe is the beginning of a revolution in power quality technology that will surely sweep through the world of high-tech electronics.” he adds.

Revised once every three years, the NEC is the principle reference to which electrical engineers, contractors and inspectors refer for up-to-date industry standards and as a legal reference for local building code enforcement.  The technical committee's 17-1 vote exceeds the required 2/3 majority vote required for acceptance and insures that the amendment will be on a fast track for adoption in the 2002 code.

BE Radio Selects New Wall Cabinet
System for NAB Pick Hit Award
.
.
LAS VEGAS, NV -- Equi=Tech products continue to dazzle the engineers in many venues as the award winning Wall Cabinet Balanced Power System garners yet another prestigious award, BE Radio's Pick Hit Award for NAB.  The newly redesigned Wall Cabinet Systems apparently caught the eye of the secret panel of 10 radio engineers and professionals who anonymously canvassed the entire floor at the NAB looking for products that in their opinion qualified as one of the top 10 new products on display from of over 1500 exhibitors at this year's NAB Convention.
.
None of the panel members identified themselves to any of the exhibitors during the convention and didn't even know who each other were until the voting took place at the end of Wednesday, the next to last day of the show.  According to BE Radio executives, everything possible was done to insure that the products selected for the award qualify strictly on their own merits.
.
Equi=Tech's Wall Cabinet Systems have a long list of awards presented in the past for excellence in innovation and engineering by many prestigious organizations.  Some of the past awards presented were, TV Technology's Top 10 NAB Award, a MIX TEC Foundation nomination and Theater Dimension's Audio Product of the Year Award.  The new wall systems from Equi=Tech honored at this year's NAB have an increased capacity and far more flexibility than their predecessors allowing them to be used and retrofitted into many more new and pre-existing facilities.  In addition, their exclusive 24/96 patented transformer technology raises performance standards up yet another notch above the field where results mean everything.

New A/C Transformer Technology
Boosts Performance in Digital Signal Processing
.
Selma, OR -- Following award winning showings at previous NAB Conventions, on tap for NAB, Equi=Tech announces official unveiling of its new "24/96 series" balanced power transformers, claimed to be the most accurately designed and effective device of its kind ever made.  Designed to extend the bandwidth of common mode noise attenuation into the 100s of megahertz, a marked reduction in digital jitter and other timing errors has been demonstrated in digitally based video systems powered with these new devices.
.
"This has no subtle effect on digital audio either." states Martin Glasband, Equi=Tech's president.  "We've found that two identical digital tracks with identical data can sound worlds apart," he adds. "Even the way the glass DVD master is removed from the drum makes a difference.  We're talking about fractions of nanoseconds here in some cases where the sound is somehow distorted.  The difference between digitally mastered performances with and without balanced power is like looking through clear or tinted lenses. It's all about finite timing errors." he concludes.
.
The new transformers provide a far more accurate balanced output than their predecessors incorporating a proprietary winding method and materials which enable a virtual mirror image impedance across the output of the transformer.  "We've always come closer than anyone else has in creating a perfect balance with the way we made them before," states Glasband, "but this new method is just about as far as modern science can take us with known manufacturing capabilities." he adds.  "We're closing in on such things as skin effect, conductor properties and current density at high frequencies to maintain absolute phase accuracy."
.
High frequency harmonics in AC systems has long been known to be a source of problems in many types digital signal processing operations.  Newer digital formats rely largely on compressed data and high frequency clocking operations to push through large amounts of information.  The newer transformers from Equi=Tech extend the effectiveness of balanced AC as a means of cleaning up high frequency harmonics well beyond the bandwidth limitations of the earlier systems.  This should come as welcome news as faster and faster data processing finds it way into HDTV, MPEG and other high power digital applications.
.
On another front, Equi=Tech responds to its customers' demands with major improvements made to its award winning line of Wall Cabinet Systems.  Scheduled to be shown for the first time at this year's NAB, the newly redesigned wall systems feature expanded capacity for up to 10 branch circuits with additional filtering options for the more sophisticated digital facility.  With a maximum rated capacity of 125 Amps., their "medium sized" output easily handles several production suites or larger studios.  Designed to work alone or in parallel with other systems, larger operations have found them useful for keeping up with production area expansion and new equipment arrivals.  Sporting an impressive "new look" enamel white interior, the new Wall Cabinet Systems come in 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5kVA sizes.  More information about the new wall systems can be found here: Wall Cabinet Systems.
.
Also on tap for a first public showing are Equi=Tech's new large capacity rack systems.  Occupying only 4ru of space (7") in a rack, the two new systems have capacities of 75 and 100 amps.  Featuring optional metering and input range switching, the large rack systems are built to go wherever a lot of power is needed.  The US domestic versions are designed to run on either 208- or 240-volt (60Hz) house power while the "World Versions" are designed with 5 operating ranges to adapt US equipment to run with any foreign voltage source (50/60Hz). Click here to drop down this page for more information about the new big rack systems.
.
Stop by the Equi=Tech exhibit (Booth #R2580) in Las Vegas at the NAB convention April 10-13 if you have plans to attend.  This year's show promises a real eyeful of new products to see.

Major Technical Breakthrough
Highlights "Big" Product Line Expansion
.
Four Years of Research Yield
New High Performance Transformer
.
Another breakthrough in power transformer technology highlights Equi=Tech's recent additions to its ever expanding line of power products.  The new transformers handle many problems that conventional transformers fall short of in terms of performance and acoustical noise levels.  The "Q" transformer for professional rack and home theater systems is making its debut this summer and promises to excite many high end audio enthusiasts and live sound engineers.  Designed primarily for performance situations, they incorporate design features that greatly enhance amplifier performance, especially where there is powerful and impacting bass.  "Q" transformers add exceptional depth and clarity to the low end.
.
As a side benefit, inrush current is also drastically reduced and the occasional acoustical hum is eliminated almost completely.  "I think that these transformers are perhaps the quietest running, the fastest and most responsive transformers ever made for powering high end - high power audio components," stated Martin Glasband, Equi=Tech's President.
.
Information on the "Q" transformer option can be found here.
.
But that's not the big news.  The big news is "BIG."  Two new rack system models with big big capacities.  The new models, ET7.5R and ET10R are bigger and more powerful than any other similar rack systems on the market.  "Either of them can run 99% of the rooms in the country all by itself, and in some circumstances there is nothing wrong with using that approach." states Glasband.  "But their real intended purpose is to run large FOH systems for sound reinforcement rigs as well as big amp racks, production trucks or anything else that needs lots of technical power."
.
.
Specifications for the new Models ET7.5R and ET10R can be found here.
.
Filling out the additions the the Equi=Tech lineup are the new metering and switching features available with the popular rack systems.  The meter is an accurate true RMS voltmeter with a bright 3-digit LED readout on the front panel.  A meter selector switch toggles the readout between input and output voltages.
.
And last but not least, a high current 3-position power switch is now available with most of the larger models that enables rack systems to be adapted to different voltages when used on location.
.
The complete lineup of Equi=tech rack systems and optional features is available here.

Major Snafus Using Balanced AC
Sidestepped by Promix and Electrotec
.
BURBANK, CA. -- At the recent Music Video Awards, a mishap at the beginning of the show prompted some professional live sound execs to reevaluate their position on implementing their road equipment rigs with balanced power.  According to industry insiders, the roadie from Aerosmith, unhappy with losing his keyboard settings when the plug was pulled on his equipment during the dress rehearsal, went out and purchased a UPS for his midi rack.  Little did anyone realize that it was this decision, unknown to the Claire Bros. sound crew, which resulted in catastrophe when the show went live that evening.
.
According to those present (and many who watched the live performance), the band lost their master feed resulting in no one on stage hearing what they were playing.  One of the musicians claimed to have suffered permanent hearing damage from a loud pop in his headsets and there are currently lawsuits pending.
.
This incident prompted Gary Hardesty, Chief Engineer for the Promix group (which now includes recently acquired Electrotec) to contact Equi=Tech Corporation for their evaluation of the MVA mishap and expert assistance in gearing up Promix with balanced power.
.
"I knew immediately after hearing the Equi=Tech engineer's evaluation of the MVA incident that we had made the right choice."  Hardesty commented.  "These people are pros and that's why we called them." he added.
.
Master mixer Bill Daly of Promix West was loaned an Equi=Tech Model ET2R for a road gig doing "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy" when the shows went to Chicago, Philly and Orlando.  "Everyone including the house sound and TV video techs were chasing ground loops but us.  We had literally nothing to do.  It was great." stated Daly. "Then they loaned us a large custom built rack system for our big FOH system to use at the  Universal Amphitheater for the Country Music Awards.  Considering the length of some of the mic runs, it was amazing.  Everything went perfectly. It was a pleasure to work without any problems." he added.  "We're definitely going to go with Equi=Tech equipment company wide." commented Hardesty.
.
Similar reports have been streaming in from live sound engineers at smaller venues, such as night clubs and churches.  It would appear that balanced power systems from Equi=Tech have found a new home.  Or, maybe it would be better to say that the live sound industry has found Equi=Tech.

Balanced Power in the Next Millennium
.
by Martin Glasband
President of Equi=Tech Corporation
.
Recent tests conducted in Portland, OR have demonstrated a significant reduction of digital jitter in 16 bit audio recordings when the equipment tested was running on balanced AC power.  The range of jitter in the equipment tested showed a reduction of 67% (18ns down to 6ns.)  At the same time, the average jitter was halved (6ns down to 3ns.)
.
It is already known that balanced AC eliminates a very wide bandwidth of electrical interference.  The tests prove that there is direct correlation between this fact and the performance of digital based signal processing equipment running on balanced AC.  The smoking gun has been found.  The repercussions arising from this finding will undoubtedly ripple outwards for years to come as balanced power is applied in more areas of science and technology.
.
For the past three decades, non-linear loads and the power distortion and reactive current problems they create have been changing the focus of the electrical power industry and international standards commissions.  Power quality standards and electrical interference are increasingly becoming the major issue in many high-tech environments.
.
Governments are now requiring electronic equipment manufacturers to meet ever stricter EMI/RFI emissions standards.  In many cases, digitally based signal processing equipment is at the heart of the matter.  Many manufacturers are finding that it is difficult and expensive to meet these criteria.
.
International standards notwithstanding, the need for higher speed and accuracy pushes the envelope of technology ever outward.  The need for clean power and clean signal circuitry is more important today than ever before.
.
The recent tests mentioned are included in an equipment review in MIX Magazine.  These tests have revealed just the tip of an iceberg - the problem of AC induced digital errors in every EDP based application and the potential for balanced power as an effective solution.
.
The incredible vastness of the iceberg beneath the surface is unimaginable.  EDP related technologies such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, R&D, test & measurement and telecommunications are only a few of the industries soon to benefit.  The future of balanced power in our world of rapidly advancing technology seems limitless.
