Large
Rack & Shelf Systems
Models 7.5RQ & 10RQ

In 1993, professional rack-mounted balanced power products from Equi=Tech were introduced in the marketplace making these the first commercial balanced power systems ever offered for sale.  Over the years, the technology has evolved as these award-winning products have gained a reputation among professional engineers for their ruggedness, dependability and as a highly effective means of reducing noise.  The Model 7.5RQ and 10RQ systems are designed as workhorses for 24/7 around the clock operation in the most demanding professional environments.  They are as finely tuned as any product Equi=Tech offers. They are built to meet the demanding level of high performance and fail-safe operation required by professionals.

7.5RModel 7.5RQ and 10RQ systems are primarily intended for professional use, however audiophiles and theater owners often choose these larger systems because they have the capacity to run all of their biggest amplifiers, plasma screens, DLP's and projectors without experiencing even so much as a blink. In theaters as well as in top drawer audiophile systems, these units will provide noticeably tighter and clearer low frequency bass reproduction with any good set of power amplifiers of any size.

In all types of venues with high power requirements, these large systems serve their purpose very well.  For an example, a studio may have a very large console with automation controls and DC servo motors.  The power supplies for these automation boards consume a lot of power on a full time basis that drains power reserves for the rest of the studio.  In such cases, a large 7.5RQ or 10RQ system installed in the board's main power supply rack is a perfect fit for powering the console power supplies without draining any power from the rest of the studio. They also provide additional isolation from these huge (and dirty) power supplies. This leaves the rest of the studio free to operate on a separate balanced AC system of its own without being drained of any power. Another use for these systems is for location power. Professional sound reinforcement technicians appreciate these units because they vitually eliminate nuisance noise problems, saving them hours and hours of time chasing around noise gremlins. A Model 7.5RQ and 10RQ can easily drive a small to moderately sized sound reinforcement system or an amp rack or a very large FOH multi-console setup with numerous outboard racks.

A remarkable feature of these large rack systems is that they are not really very large at all.  Both the 7.5RQ and 10RQ occupy only 5ru of rack space (8.375" tall) yet they deliver 80 and 100 Amps (respectively) of clean balanced power. They also run just barely warm at full load capacity.

Both models require a 50A (California Style) Hubbel twist-lock cord connector fed by a 40- or 50-amp circuit  to power them up, however cam-lock inputs may be specified instead of the twist-lock when ordering.  The Model 7.5RQ has 4 front panel circut breakers controlling 4 output circuits -- the Model 10RQ has 5. The stock version of the rear panel has 16 "Edison-type" output receptacles (NEMA 5-15R or 5-20R.)  Among these outlets, each circuit includes one Edison-type duplex GFCI receptacle.  As an alternative to the Edison outlets, 30-amp 125-volt twist lock output receptacles are available instead ("T" Option) and they require no GFCI protection.  The "T" option is more suitable in situations where there is no room for any nuisance GFCI malfunctions such as in concerts or in live broadcasting.

Both models are designed to operate with either a 208V or 240V input and can be switched from one voltage to the other by removing the lid and manually moving one internal jumper wire with a screwdriver.  As an option ("SW" option) for touring purposes, a front panel switch can be ordered so either voltage can be quickly selected and set.  A front panel 3-digit LED voltmeter is a standard feature for both models that includes an IN-OFF-OUT mode switch so voltage can be monitored at either the input or output of the unit

The "EA" suffix on both models indicates "World Power" feature that provides for American equipment use anywhere in the world. The transformers are heavier to accomodate foreign power that uses 50Hz AC. They can be used anywhere in the world where there is a 200 thru 240 Volt AC supply available. If the EA version is required for touring purposes, it is strongly recommended that the "SW" option also be included.

Option Descriptions
LSW -- Switched input voltage option. A heavy duty 3-position, center-off, multi-pole power switch rated for high current applications.  Commonly used in portable racks where either 208V or 240V power is furnished on location.  Switch toggles between 208V and 240V to match the balanced power system's input voltage to house power.
LT -- Touring option.  Rear panels are equipped with 30-amp 125V twist-lock outlets (NEMA L5-30R) for touring power applications.  No GFCI outlets are used for a fail-safe operation.
LF -- EMI/RFI filter option -- Filters are applied to the balanced output.  Sensitive digital electronics in a system may require additional line filtering for best performance.  Switching digital power supply noise is attenuated on the line and kept isolated from outlets that power other sensitive electronics.  These filters reduce line noise -30dB from 100kHz to 2gHz.
LCL -- Cam lock inputs instead of 50A Hubbel twist lock.  3 cam locks are required, 2 "hot" (black and red) and one ground (green) cam locks are used.  No neutrals (white) are ever used in balanced power circuits or equipment.
LOFC -- Hand made Mil. Spec. Oxygen-free wiring jumpers and wiring harnesses are used throughout the assembly of the wall cabinet system.
Note: When specifying options, first add suffix -LSW and -LT to model number then add -LF1, -LF2 etc. indicating
number of EMI/RFI filtered circuits and last, add -LCL for cam lock inputs and -LOFC for Oxygen-free copper wiring .
